Mastering the Value Creator Paradox
"Good work is forgettable. Relevance is earned."
Announcing the debut book by Kevin McKenzie:
Mastering the Value Creator Paradox
Stop selling work. Start shaping outcomes.
Hardcover, paperback, and e-book available October 2026.
You delivered on time. You stayed on budget. The execution was flawless. The client smiled.
And then, they called someone else for the real decision.
Why? Because you were selling work, not shaping outcomes.
In a world where AI handles analysis, internal teams run the models, and clients arrive already prepared, expertise alone no longer commands a premium. The advisors who matter—the ones who get called before decisions are made, not after—have learned something their competitors haven’t.
It isn’t about being smarter. It isn’t about working harder. It’s about showing up differently: leading with outcomes rather than offerings, asking better questions rather than pitching better answers, and earning the kind of trust that gets you called before the decision is made.
In Mastering the Value Creator Paradox, Kevin McKenzie shows you how to make that shift—drawing on nearly thirty years of experience as both an advisor and an executive, and candid insights from dozens of senior executives.
This isn’t a book about being smarter. It’s about being trusted when it matters.
Stop selling work. Start shaping outcomes.
Become the advisor your clients can’t afford to lose.

About the Author
Kevin McKenzie is the founder of Whatif? Advisory and a leading voice on leadership, strategy, and value creation. He founded Whatif? on a simple belief: powerful questions are more effective than perfect answers.
Over the course of his career, Kevin has held senior leadership roles in global professional and financial services organizations, advising large corporations and entrepreneurial ventures across more than twenty countries. Through that work, he articulated the “Value Creator Paradox”—the idea that while expertise gets you in the room, only judgment keeps you there.
Today, Kevin works with senior executives and leadership teams to help them move from delivering services to shaping decisions. He’s also deeply committed to mentoring future leaders and fostering diversity at all levels of leadership.
He lives in the Georgian Bay area with his family and writes weekly on leadership at whatif.ca.
